Carter County will hold public hearings on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:45 am at the Carter County Courthouse located at 1122 Main Street, Van Buren 63965 to discuss Carter County’s submission of seven (7) Mitigation applications to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for FY 2023/2024. Carter County is interested in obtaining all citizens’ input on community development needs within Carter County. As part of the hearing process, citizens will be asked to verbally assist in the completion of a Needs Assessment document. The document will detail what the residents feel are the strengths and weaknesses of the community. Carter County needs as much local participation as possible in order to reflect the true desires of the community, as well as comments relating to the proposed project application. The State has established a maximum application request for each funding category. The total estimated cost for these projects is $2,177,000.
Activities that are eligible for funding include the installation of critical facility generators, mitigation planning and capacity building, public facility hardening, warning sirens, and others allowed by law. At least 51% of the funds must be used to benefit low-and-moderate income persons. No displacement of persons is anticipated.

Carter County is requesting funds to replace a low water crossing located at Carter 327 (Elm Springs Road). The total project cost is estimated at $350,000. The public hearing meeting to discuss the submission of this proposed project will be held at 11:00 a.m.

Carter County is requesting funds to replace a low water crossing located at Carter 217 approximately one mile from Carter Route F. The total project cost is estimated at $259,000. The public hearing meeting to discuss the submission of this proposed project will be held at 11:30 a.m.
The project, if funded, will benefit at least 51% of low to moderate income persons for Carter County. All citizens, including those in the targeted area, are encouraged to attend to comment on the proposed activities.
