PIEDMONT, MO – On March 10, 2026, the City of Piedmont Board of Aldermen officially adopted "Piedmont 2026," the first-ever Comprehensive Plan in the city’s history. This foundational document establishes a long-term vision for the community, providing a strategic roadmap for the next 10 to 20 years.
Developed in partnership with the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission (OFRPC) and supported by a grant from the Missouri Department of Economic Development, the plan assists the city in identifying critical needs for sustainable development.
A Vision for Progress The "Piedmont 2026" plan is centered on a vision of growing the community while preserving its historic relevance and small-town atmosphere. Key goals of the plan include:
Infrastructure and Services: Prioritizing improvements to water and sewer systems, which are essential for the town’s survival and future prosperity.
Economic Development: Encouraging community revitalization, supporting small businesses, and exploring adaptive reuse for unoccupied buildings in the historic downtown area.
Safety and Preparedness: Enhancing emergency services, including equipping the police force with proper tools and recruiting volunteers for the fire department.
Community Character: Maintaining and improving the city’s parks, trails, and green spaces to ensure they remain a priority for residents.
Community-Driven Planning The creation of the plan was a collaborative effort involving city staff, elected officials, and a dedicated Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). Over several months, the city sought extensive public input through stakeholder interviews, open-house style meetings, and surveys conducted with residents both within and outside the city limits.
"This plan is the result of many hours of public engagement," the document states, noting that the strategies laid out are designed to make the community's shared vision tangible.
