     The City of Grandin is located on State Hwy. 21 in Carter County, with city offices at 308 Fifth Street. According to the 2000 census and Mayor Ellene Personette, Grandin now has a population of 236, a gain of three residents since the 1990 count. The town employs one full-time police officer. Economic development for Grandin is assisted by the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission. The city is governed by the Mayor Ellene Personette and a four-member city council.

     Grandin has a healthy economy. Carter County's per capita income, in 1999, was $15,652.

     Ozark Border Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Poplar Bluff, provides electric power for Grandin. The city provides water for its residents from its own well. The water plant has a storage capacity of 60,000 gallons per day, with peak consumption and plant capacity of 80,000 gallons per day. Grandin operates its own sewage lagoon.

     The residents of Grandin obtain telephone service from Alltel. They do their banking at the Bank of Grandin, which has combined assets of $87 million. Within the city limits are the public library, one Catholic church, and five Protestant churches. For medical services, residents utilize the Doniphan Hospital, only 18 miles away.

     Missouri Highway 21 runs directly through Grandin. It is 9 miles to the nearest four-lane thoroughfare. For air travel, Doniphan Municipal Airport, which is 13 miles to the south, has a one-mile runway. Jonesboro Municipal Airport, 92 miles away, is the nearest commercial facility in the area, and Lambert Field in St. Louis is the closest international airport.

     The unemployment rate of Carter County is 6.4 percent, with an available workforce of 2,667. Only 172 people in Carter County are unemployed, with 2,495 having gainful employment. The average hourly wage for the county is $7.82 per hour in the manufacturing sector and $7.20 in non-manufacturing. The county's major employers include East Carter County R-2 School District, with 130 employees; Carter County R-2 School District, with 75 employees; Imperial Products, a manufacturer of wood products, which employs 52 workers; The Landing, a popular vacation resort, with canoe/tube rental and restaurant, employing 50 workers; and Riverways Manor, a nursing home facility, with 45 employees; and North Pacific Lumber, a lumber wholesaler, with 22 employees.

     The nearest public community college, Three Rivers Community College, is located in Poplar Bluff and boasts an enrollment of 2,824 (fall, 2001).Arkansas State University, a public four-year college located in Jonesboro, AR, is the nearest higher learning facility. Fall, 2001, enrollment for the university was 10,572 students.

     Within a 20-mile radius, residents may enjoy the activities at two country clubs, two public golf courses, and four public parks. Current River is a popular spot for locals, as well as enthusiasts from across the state, where they enjoy camping, fishing, hiking/fitness/nature trails, motor boating, canoe and tube floating, and swimming. Average temperatures for Grandin run from 16 degrees Fahrenheit in January to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in July.

     Grandin's residents are represented by 153rd District State Representative Mike Dethrow (R) and 3rd District State Senator Kevin Engler (R).   U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (R) represents Grandin in the Eighth Congressional District.
